Setting Hosting Controller with DNS running on remote involves 2 steps.

1. Installation and configuration of HC Secondary Setup. Refer to Installation section for setup instructions.

2. Configuration on both primary and remote machines.

Configuration On Primary HC Machine:

1. Login into Hosting Controller as Host Administrator. Click Preferences, click NameServer Settings.

2. Enter the following information

• Primary NameServer: Primary nameserver for domains. e.g. ns1.domain.com.

• Secondary NameServer: Secondary nameserver for domains. e.g. ns2.domain.com.

• Administrative E-mail Address: The information entered in Administrator E-mail Address Is entered in the zone file so that if someone does NS Lookup for the domain, he could see the contact for the domain. e.g. admin.domain.com.

• DNS Server: Select Bind from the list.

3. Click on button.

Configuration On Remote HC Machine:

1. In Start menu Programs folder, go to Hosting Controller and click Settings. The Settings utility dialog will appear.

2. In Settings dialog, click on DNS tab and check the Enabled check box.

3. Enter the following information.

• In DNS Zone File Path box, enter the root path where DNS server is installed. e.g. c:\windows\system32\dns.

• Select the DNS server you are running from DNS Server Type drop down list.

• In MX Priority box, enter 10.

• In Name Server 1 box, enter the name of DNS primary host to be used by Hosting Controller. e.g. ns1.mydomain.com.

• In Name Server 2  box, enter the name of DNS secondary host to be used by Hosting Controller. e.g. ns2.mydomain.com.

• The information entered in Administrator Mail Address Is entered in the zone file for the DNS server, so that if someone does an NS Lookup for the domain, he can see which person to contact for the domain. e.g. admin.domain.com.

• In CName1 box, enter WWW .

• In CName2 box, enter FTP.

4. Click on Servers tab, enter the IP address of the primary machine in Primary Server IP box. Click Ok.

After configuration make sure.

1. DCOM is configured.

2. HostingController service is running on both primary and secondary machine. Refer to Service Manager for more information.
