Viewing virtual directories |
A virtual directory is a directory that is not contained in the home directory but appears to client browsers as though it were. A virtual directory has an alias, a name that Web browsers use access that directory. Virtual directories are useful for the following reasons:
More convenient for users type - An alias is usually shorter than the path name of the directory.
More secure - Users do not know where your files are physically located on the server and cannot use that information to modify your files.
Easier move directories in your site - Rather than changing the URL for the directory, you change the mapping between the alias and the physical location of the directory.
You do not have to use virtual directories; small or simple sites generally do not need to use any.
To view a virtual directory:
Click on the List Web Sites link in the Domain Manager menu.
Click on the button.
The virtual directories for the top level of your web site are now displayed.
If you need to view any virtual directories that are contained within an existing virtual directory, click on the radio button next to the required directory and click on the button. Repeat as required.
