Hosting Controller allows you to enabled shared SSL for websites.
What is shared SSL: According to VeriSign, a shared SSL certificate "enables Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to provide SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption and business authentication to Web business customers, but without the need to issue unique digital certificates to each hosted customer. The service offers ISPs the convenience and streamlined management of a single specially licensed SSL digital certificate to share among multiple hosted Web sites".
How does it work: If your provider offers a Shared SSL certificate, you can use it instead of purchasing a certificate of your own. Unlike a regular SSL certificate, it costs less, doesn't require a dedicated IP, and belongs to an equally trusted Certificate Authority. The disadvantage of shared SSL is that it can be used only with provide domain, e.g. https://secure.provide.com/yoursite.
Note: This section needs to be enabled by web host. If you do not see this section in your Hosting Controller menu, then it has not been enabled. Please refer to your hosting administrator for more information.
To list existing SSL shares:
Click on SSL Setup link in SSL Manager menu.
A list of SSL shares is now displayed.
