Step-by-Step installation guide

Steps to perform a successfully installation of Hosting Controller:

  1. Double click the setup program to run the self extracting .EXE file, the setup will unzip the installation files and will run the installer. At any level of installation you can click back and alter your previous settings.

  2. In the first information dialog click Next.
    Next you are displayed the license agreement, read the license agreement carefully before proceeding, If you do not agree with the terms of the license agreement, cancel the setup. If you agree to the terms click Next.

  3. In the Customer Information dialog, supply your name and your company name. In the serial number box, enter the serial number for the software (if you have one), You can purchase the license key online at http://hostingcontroller.com/english/store.html. If you want to install the software for evaluation purpose, leave DEMO in the serial number, in this case a message will be displayed in the top frame of HC Control Panel indicating the trial mode. The trial version will expire after 30 days.

  4. In the Destination location dialog please select the location where you want to install HC. Click Next.

  5. In Start Menu option select the name with which HC should create the startup links in your Start menu. Click Next

  6. In the Root Setup Path dialog, select the location where you wish to create website folders. This path is considered the default root of the host and all the reseller and web admin folders are created under this path. You can change this path later by using the settings (settings.exe) utility. Click Next

  7. In the Server Option dialog, select the servers you want to manage with Hosting Controller. The servers should be installed before hand in order to configure HC to manage them. If the server is not already installed, don't select now. You may enable and configure the servers later using provided utility (settings.exe). Click Next


     

  8. In Remote Server Options dialog, you will enable Mail and/or DNS servers options only if you are running them on a server other than primary (web server) machine. If you choose any of them to be on the remote machine, you need to download and install the HC Secondary Setup on Mail and/or DNS server.
     

    If you enable the following two check boxes, then on the next screen, you will be displayed the Remote Server Entries option dialog. There you will give the IP Address of the remote servers.

  1. If you do not choose the Mail/DNS on remote system (In step VIII), then you will be displayed the Mail Server options dialog. Hosting Controller supports 5 mail servers on Windows platform and 1 mail server on Linux.

Note: You may select/configure Mail Servers after the installation also, using settings utility (settings.exe).

On clicking Next, If you have selected the stats server option in step VII, you will choose the type of Stats Server in Stats Server Option dialog. Following 3 stats servers are supported.

If you select MediaHouse Stats server, you will provide following information on next dialog.

Stat server admin name and password: The name and password you provided for administration login during stat server Setup, e.g. StatsAdmin:StatsPassword
Server Address:Port
: The IP address on which you have installed the stats server and the port on which it is running, e.g. 175.210.132.19:8080
Installation Path:
The path on which stats server is installed

On clicking Next, If you also selected to use the Serv-U as your default FTP server in step VII, then you need to give the path of the Serv-U ini file. This ini file is located in the root folder of where you have installed the Serv-U (e.g. c:\serv-u\serv-u.ini), click Next.

If you have not chosen the DNS on remote server in step VIII, this means that DNS will be on same machine where Web Server is running. You need to select the DNS type in DNS Server Option dialog. After selecting the type of DNS Server, on next dialog , you will provide following information specific to selected DNS Server.

NS1: Enter the first nameserver for domains (e.g. ns1.abc.com).
NS2:
  Enter the second nameserver for domains (e.g. ns2.abc.com)
Admin Email:
is the mail address of the person that will be authoritative for the domain (e.g. admin.abc.com).

In case of Bind on Linux Machine, you need to provide DNS Server IP and Port on which HC is running (33333 is default port). Click Next

  1. In IPLess domain IP dialog, provide an IP Address that will be used by HC to create IPLess (Name Based) domains.  This IP Address can be altered anytime using the settings utility.

  2. On clicking Next, Setup will then start copying files. After files copy, you will be displayed the Virtual directory configuration dialog. This is the directory used to access HC Control Panel from web (e.g. http://192.168.0.139/ControlPanel), where ControlPanel is the virtual directory name. The virtual directory will be created in the Default Website in IIS.

    In HostServer change the localhost to the name of your server (e.g. NS1). In the Virtual Direc name enter the name of the Virtual directory by which you will reference HC. Click Next.

  1. In HCSetup dialog, You will enter the following information.

    Default Group:
    All the users, created by Hosting Controller, will be member of this group.
    Host User Name:
    The login name for default host level (super user).
    Password:
    The password for default host level (super user).
    Reseller User:
    The login for default reseller level user.
    Password:
    The password for default reseller level user.
    Data Source Name:
    This is the ODBC DSN name HC uses to connect with database. Make sure you give a unique name here (e.g. AlphaDSNHC), avoid using 'HCDatabase' as this would be a security risk.



     

  2. After default account creation, setup will show the Settings utility dialog. Settings utility dialog provides a chance to review settings and make changes, if required. In settings dialog, you need to click on SMTP tab, where you will specify the SMTP settings as displayed in the picture below.

 

 
  1. At the end you need, if you have DNS/Mail on a remote machine, you need to start the Hosting Controller Service using the HC service manager dialog box, or the System Service manager. You can click hide to minimize the service control dialog to system tray or cancel it to close the dialog. The service will keep on running.

Note: Hosting Controller setup doesn't require to reboot the system, but if you are upgrading or uninstalling HC, setup might require to reboot the system to free up locked DLLs. You may avoid system reboot by restarting World Wide Web Service before starting the setup.

Caution: Clients reinstalling or upgrading from previous version to new version of HC must backup their old database files in order to save their old settings, accounts and sites. After the new files have been copied, you need to replace the backup database with the new one in database folder of HC installation directory. If you are using SQL database, then backup is not required.
