Target Audience

This document is intended for WEB ADMINISTRATORS who need to install SSL Certificate through HC. It explains all the technicalities and functionalities of the installation process in detail. In addition to that, it also states the required steps to ensure flawless working of the certificate.

It is assumed that you have successfully installed HC and performed all the prerequisites to install the certificate.

Prior to install SSL Certificate, you need to configure GLOBALSIGN (The Certificate Issuing Authority) with HC. For details regarding the configuration process, refer to

Introduction

About HC

It enables web hosting companies to manage all their servers both Windows & Linux through centralized interface. You can add multiple mail servers within a cluster and offer MS-Exchange & SharePoint hosting. You can expand your business with HC, from one server to cluster of servers. It allows you to add new clusters as per your requirements.

HC Installation

You have to first install it on database server having windows operating system. It can be a standalone server and can have other roles such as Web, Mail and DNS as per your requirements. For further assistance, refer to HC Installation Guide.

HC Pre-requisites and Working

Before Installation, you should know the pre-requisites of HC. You have to install Microsoft SQL Server. Instead of this, if you want, you can also download HC installer, in which MSDE is bundled free, depending on your requirements. You have to install Mail Server such as Mail Enable or any other. For websites, you have to install IIS and DNS.

SSL Certificate Installation with HC (Only From GlobalSign)

To install SSL Certificate, login as a WEBADMIN and follow the series of steps as stated to avoid faults and errors.

Steps to Follow

a) After successful login, following screen is displayed:

b) Go to “Toolbox >> Tools”. It opens following screen:

c) Select “Dedicated SSL”. It opens following screen:

Currently, no Dedicated SSL is added in the system.

1) Dedicated SSLs: It shows all the existing Dedicated SSLs.

2) Add Dedicated SSL: It allows you to install SSL Certificate only from GLOBALSIGN.

3) Install SSL Certificate: It allows you to install SSL Certificate that you have purchased directly from some Certificate Issuing Authority.

d) Select “Add Dedicated SSL”. It opens following screen:

There must exist an IP based domain to install/add dedicated SSL. In case of no IP based domain, go to “General >> Domains >> Add Website” to add one.

There are four different steps to install SSL Certificate from GLOBALSIGN.

I. You need to specify general information such as:

ü Select the domain on which you want to install the certificate, from the dropdown list.

ü Select SSL Type from the dropdown list as required.

Among the SSL Types, AlphaSSL is the cheapest of all. DomainSSL is expensive than AlphaSSL and OrgizationSSL is most expensive. For details regarding the SSL Types, refer to: http://www.globalsign.com/ssl/

FQDN is Fully Qualified Domain Name. Also known as Absolute Domain Name. For example: Given a device with a local hostname ‘myhost’ and a parent domain name ‘example.com’, the fully qualified domain name is written as ‘myhost.example.com’. This fully qualified domain name therefore uniquely identifies the host — while there may be many resources in the world called myhost, there is only one myhost.example.com.

ü Select “Base Options” as required.

-- Standard means that certificate is only for the selected website e.g. "domain.com"

-- Wildcard means that certificate is also for all of its sub domains i.e.

" *.domain.com"

ü Specify validity period for the certificate to be installed.

ü Select “Next” to proceed to the second step.

II. You need to specify user and organization information such as:

ü Specify information as required.

ü Select “Next” to proceed to the second step.

III. Your specified information will be sent to GLOBALSIGN for verification. They send you list of email addresses with the domain name you ordered. You have to select one e-mail address from the list and GLOBALSIGN sends you confirmation email on the selected email address.

Select valid e-mail address as you will receive an approval e-mail on the selected e-mail address.

ü Select “Next” to proceed to the second step. It opens following screen:

ü Select “Add Dedicated SSL” to install the SSL with the specified information. It opens appropriate message as:

This success message is not for successful installation rather it indicates that HC SERVICE has started working to download & install the certificate in the backend. The status as “Pending for Approval”, indicates that your request is submitted and GLOBALSIGN is waiting for your reply to their e-mail.

There is one more status as “Pending” that installation is being done on your website. Once the certificate is installed the status will be changed to “Installed”.

IV. Once you, confirm email from GLOBALSIGN, HC SERVICE downloads the certificate from GLOBALSIGN and installs it on the selected website. On successful installation, a message is displayed accordingly.

HC deducts funds after order confirmation. You have two options, either to confirm or cancel order. In case of order cancellation, the deducted funds are refund otherwise the certificate is installed.

SSL Certificate Installation with HC (Directly Purchased From Certificate Issuing Authority)

To install SSL Certificate that you have directly purchased from some Certificate Issuing Authority, login as a WEBADMIN and follow the series of steps as stated to avoid faults and errors.

Steps to Follow

c) Select “Dedicated SSL”. It opens following screen:

2) Add Dedicated SSL: It allows you to install SSL Certificate from GLOBALSIGN.

3) Install SSL Certificate: It allows you to install SSL Certificate that you have purchased directly from some Certificate Issuing Authority.

d) Select “Install SSL Certificate”. It opens following screen:

ü Select website to install certificate for.

ü Specify type of certificate.

ü Select “Browse” to specify exact path for certificate directory.

ü Select “Install SSL” to specify the certificate with the specified information. It opens appropriate message accordingly.

That’s it! You have successfully installed the SSL certificate.
