Meet
Syed Nauman Hashmi, poster child of the global economy.
Back in 1992, after receiving his electrical engineering
degree, the Lahore, Pakistan native began his career
as a Pascal/C/FoxPro programmer in Singapore. BY 1997,
Internet fever had spread to Pakistan - Did you know
reliable Internet access is now available in 268 Pakistani
cities? Hashmi returned home and joined the faculty
of the computer science department at the Quaid-e-Azam
University in Islamabad. The teaching position enabled
him to pinpoint the brightest and best two members of
the 1998 graduating class, whom he promptly recruited
to join him in founding Advanced Communication.
The company began its existence as an offshore software
development shop. Hashmi and Co. completed a resume
collection system for Sears' online career center; a
Petroleum product portal (ShipNOilBroker.com) supporting
auctions, reverse auction and open bids; and a billing
software packages customized for Pakistani ISPs. The
product is now used by Siemens and Alcatel, as well
as National Telecom PTCL, the largest Pakistani access
provider with 50,000 users in 22 cities. BY 1999, Advanced
Communication staff had expanded to 33 full time programmers,
and Hashmi ambition had grown to creating a software
empire of his own. Residual income beats one time hourly
fees, baby!
And here's where this story becomes relevant to you.
In early 2000. Advanced communication released Advanced
Hosting controller (hostingcontroller.com) an add-on
to NT/IIS-based web servers. The product provides
three security level for hosting administrator, resellers
and website user to remotely maintain mail and FTP
accounts and perform sites management tasks. Hashmi
says that Hosting Controller's access hierarchy automates
all hosting operations without creating loopholes
typical in Windows based sheared hosting environments.
To date hosting controller has attracted more than
100 paying customer, who says that the price is right
at $300 per server. Users also rave about the admin
time the product saves by allowing resellers and hosting
customer to create and configure accounts n their
own. Estimated value created range from "50 man
hours a month" to "$500/week", to 50
percent of support time and 75 percent of admin time.
In addition to Hosing Controller, Advanced Communication
also markets Advanced IMAP webmail, Advanced Auction
Builder, Advanced Ecommerce Builder, and ASPFusion,
A SUITE OF Active Server Pages components that enables
secure shared hosting, Software sales accounts for
50% of the company's revenue. What's next? Plesk Sphera
and other usual suspects in hosting automation ought
to stay tuned----- a Linux version of hosting controller
is scheduled for release in mid 2001. |
